We have worked with many customers doing specialty gates, such as large swing or slide gates for chain link and wood fence applications, to match customers older or out-of-date existing fence systems. The Fenceman offers custom fabrications for large or small jobs.

Each gate is built to fit the opening between your posts.  So we first help with the selection of posts for the gates needs to ensure we get the job done right the first time.

For the do-it-yourselfer, as well as our professional crews, we build each gate to fit. You’re not always working with a 4’ single or a 10’ double gate application.  Each home is different and we, as a team, treat it that way.  Simply put, posts are set, a measurement is given to the office and we build it to fit; not the other way around.

Instructions on installing your custom built gate yourself

Dig 2 foot holes for your posts. (Few post holes will need to be deeper than 2 feet.) We suggest you mix the cement in a wheel barrel to the consistency of thick pancake batter. NEVER use dry cement and add water into the hole. This can cause pockets. This means there is little to no strength and durability to the posts.

Once the cement is in the hole, take the post and shimmy the post into the cement, thus allowing the inside of the post (steel) to fill also.

We let the cement set for 7 days, (or a minimum of 3-4 days). This allows it to cure/dry not only at the top, but also 2 feet down and to the post. We feel this ensures a strong and durable post that will hold the weight of your gate without issue.
We ask you to measure the dead space between the two posts. Do not make any adjustments for hardware. We make the adjustments for the hardware as each gate is can be different and the hardware needs can vary.

Remember, your gate is only as strong as its foundation and your post selection is very important.
